Overview

This policy explains how personal information is handled on https://therajababu.com, and the choices you have. It covers this website and any message you send me through it.

Information I collect

As little as possible. Reading this site requires no account and asks nothing of you. If you get in touch — by email, or through any channel listed here — I receive what you choose to send, such as your name, your email address and the content of your message.

If you sign up for the newsletter, I receive the email address you give. Nothing is sent until you confirm it by clicking a link, and every email after that carries a way to unsubscribe.

As with any website, the server delivering these pages records ordinary technical details with each request: an IP address, the page requested, and information about your browser and device.

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It records the page you opened, roughly where in the world you are, and what browser and device you used. Your IP address is used to work out that approximate location and is not stored.

How it is used

Anything you send me is used to read and answer it, and for nothing else. Technical request data is used to keep the site available, secure and working properly. Analytics data is used to understand which writing is read, and nothing else. None of it is ever sold or rented, none of it is used for advertising, and none of it is linked to your name or your email address.

Cookies and local storage

Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser. They are what tells a repeat visit apart from a new one, and they expire after two years. Nothing else on this site sets a cookie.

You can refuse them. Any content blocker will stop them, as will Google’s own opt-out add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The site works exactly the same either way.

If you choose a light or dark appearance, that single preference is stored in your own browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie. It is never sent anywhere, stays on your device, and can be cleared at any point from your browser settings.

Third-party services

Parts of these pages are delivered or handled by other companies: the typefaces the site is set in, the analytics described above, a check that runs when you submit a form to keep automated traffic out, and the services that carry a message or a newsletter sign-up on to me. When your browser reaches one of them, it can see your IP address and that a page on this site was opened. Nothing further is shared with them, and none of them is given your details for any purpose of their own.

How long it is kept

Messages are kept only as long as they are needed to deal with what they are about. Technical request data is retained only while it remains useful for security and diagnostics. Analytics reports are held for as long as the analytics account keeps them. None of it is combined with anything else to identify you.

Comments

Where comments appear beneath an article, each is shown with the name its author gave. If a comment is yours and you would like it corrected or taken down, write to me and I will see to it.

Links to other sites

Pages and articles link out to other websites and services. Once you follow a link you are on that site, and its own privacy policy and terms apply in place of these.

Your rights

You can ask what personal information I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and you can object to how it is handled. Write to me and I will answer as promptly as I can.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, write to me and I will remove it.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Any change appears on this page, with a new date above.
